Responsibilities

Implement therapeutic interventions and treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist to improve patients' daily living and working skills.
Assist patients in performing activities of all types, ranging from using a computer to dressing, grooming, and eating.
Monitor patient progress and provide feedback to the Occupational Therapist to help adjust treatment goals as needed.
Train patients and caregivers in the use of adaptive equipment, such as wheelchairs, splints, and aids for eating or dressing.
Document patient performance and treatment outcomes in clinical records with accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain a safe and clean treatment environment by preparing therapy areas and disinfecting equipment after use.
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient rehabilitation and wellness.

Qualifications

Solid understanding of occupational therapy principles and the ability to apply them to diverse patient populations.
Strong physical stamina to assist with patient transfers and the ability to remain active for the duration of a shift.
Effective communication skills to clearly explain therapeutic tasks to patients and report progress to supervisors.
Creative problem-solving abilities to adapt activities or tools to meet the specific physical or cognitive needs of a patient.

Licenses and Certification

Associate degree from an ACOTE-accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
National certification by passing the NBCOT COTA examination.
Valid state license or registration to practice as a COTA.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification.
